The owner resources from Douglas Sewer Line Repair Seattle help organize an inspection and compare a proposed repair without treating every unfamiliar pipe condition as a full replacement. Private sewer work is performed by fully licensed and insured contractors. Use the checklist below with the camera-report guide and the quote-comparison guide.

Keep an inspection file you can actually use

Record where the inspection began, the direction of travel and the point where it ended. Keep the complete recording, a written description of visible findings, and any stated limit such as an obstruction or water obscuring the view. A footage counter measures camera travel from the access, not an independent parcel-line or excavation measurement.

Add historical sewer cards or available as-built records, but keep their role clear. They can help explain the recorded route and shared connections. They do not prove the present depth, material or condition of every section. If the recording shows something different, preserve the discrepancy as a question to resolve.

Printable quote-comparison checklist

For each proposal, write down the start and end of the work, the reason for those limits and the method proposed. Ask which branches or transitions are included. A spot repair retaining the rest of a lateral and a whole-run replacement should not be reduced to two competing totals without acknowledging the different scope.

List the inspection or cleaning needed before installation, access pits or continuous excavation, utility coordination, permits, testing and closeout records. Beside every item, mark included, excluded or not yet established. An unanswered item belongs on the discussion list rather than being silently treated as included.

Make the price comparison after the scope comparison

The cost guide provides regional budgeting spans for different categories. It does not determine which category is appropriate for a property. Check whether inspection, fees and preparation are already included before adding separate published figures to the total. A per-foot amount is not an installed quote when fixed access or connection work remains undefined.

If insurance or public assistance may be involved, ask the responsible insurer or program administrator about its sequence before authorizing work. Save any instructions with the scope documents. The printable is a planning worksheet, not a contract, an inspection certification or evidence that funding has been approved. Get an Estimate with the unresolved items you want to discuss.
